Yesterday, October 31st, 2013, Spokane Valley Sheriff's Deputies responded to the 12900 block of East Cataldo on a Residential Burglary call. Deputies contacted the complainant who had 19-year-old Preston Fitzgerald-Butcher detained behind his residence.
The complainant told deputies at about 9:20 p.m. he was watching TV in the living room when he heard the rear, unlocked sliding door open. He walked out to the kitchen and saw a blue piece of clothing run out of the kitchen and exit the rear, slider door. He
said he chased two subjects through two yards when he saw them try to hide under a truck. He tried to get them to come out when one suspect came out from under the front of the truck and ran. He was able to detain Butcher until law enforcement arrived.
Butcher admitted to deputies he and his friend did enter the residence through the back slider door, were inside the residence looking to steal cigarettes and admitted it was "stupid".
At this time it is unknown who the second suspect was.
• Fitzgerald-Butcher was booked into the Spokane County Jail on the felony charge of Residential Burglary.
