Deputy Involved Shooting Case Forwarded to Prosecutor
The Spokane Investigative Regional Response (SIRR) Team has completed their investigation into the shooting incident involving Spokane Valley Sheriff’s Deputies occurring on Saturday, 6/1/13 at an apartment complex on N. McDonald Rd. The case has been forwarded
to the Spokane County Prosecutor's Office for review.
Original SIRR Team news release below:
At approximately 5:40 am on Saturday, 6/1/13, deputies responded to a warrant call at an apartment complex in the 4100 block of N. McDonald Rd. 911 received two calls from the residence where arguing was heard in the background. One of the 911 calls was disconnected.
When 911 called back, operators continued to hear arguing in the background.
When deputies responded to the scene they observed a man (Roy Jacobs) and a woman struggling in a chair. Jacobs was armed with a 12” knife in his right hand.
Deputy Kiehn pulled the woman off of Jacobs and told Jacobs to drop his knife multiple times. Jacobs refused commands to drop the knife and stood up and moved towards the deputies.
At this time Jacobs and Deputy Kiehn were in close proximity (within 6 feet). Deputy Kiehn fired two shots.
Medics were called and life-saving measures were taken by deputies. Jacobs was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
