Backcountry Camping Permit Application

  1. Liberty Lake Backcountry Camping Permit
    After completing this application, be sure to print a copy and pack it in with you. The copy will serve as your backcountry camping permit. You will be required to produce this permit upon request by the Park Ranger or County Parks staff.
  2. Note: You will only be contacted if there is an emergency closure or other management issue that requires Spokane County Parks to contact you.
  3. Please note: There is a 3-night limit per visit to the Liberty Lake Backcountry.
  4. Please be sure to park at the Idaho Road Trailhead if leaving your vehicle overnight. Do not leave valuables in your vehicle.
  5. Backcountry Camping Rules *

    Overnight camping in the backcountry of Liberty Lake Regional Park is on a first come, first serve basis. This is not a reservation for a campsite. Camping in the backcountry is restricted to the area around Camp Hughes Cabin at the top of the Liberty Lake Loop Trail. Camping is prohibited in all other areas, including the Cedar Grove. Backcountry campers shall comply with Leave No Trace principles. Camping is prohibited within 100' feet of existing streams and creeks. Campers shall utilize existing sites to limit impact to natural resources. Fires are prohibited. In 2022, a new composting toilet was installed at the Camp Hughes Cabin. Please use best management practices for disposing of waste/toilet paper.

    Liberty Lake Regional Park is a wild place with risks inherent to wilderness areas. Spokane County does not guarantee the condition of the trails. Trails may be muddy, icy or blocked with blow downs. Use at your own risk.
