This 192-acre property was acquired by Spokane County in two separate acquisitions (2008 and 2018) through Spokane County’s Conservation Futures Program, a voter-supported property tax levy that has been in place since 1994.

Hauser Conservation Area contains a diverse forest species mix of Western red cedar, Western hemlock, Western larch, Douglas fir, Grand fir, Ponderosa pine, Lodge pole pine, Western white pine and several deciduous species including birch, alder and aspen. This mix attracts a wide-variety of wildlife species, including: moose, elk, white-tailed deer, black bear, cougar, coyote and great horned owls.

The trailhead was constructed in 2019-2020 by Spokane County Parks, Recreation & Golf’s Operations Division using Conservation Futures Maintenance and Operations (M&O) funding. 25% of the annual Conservation Futures property tax levy revenue is dedicated towards maintaining, operating, and enhancing conservation areas like Hauser Conservation Area.
