1. Where is the County Clerk's Office (Clerk of the Superior Court) and what hours is it open?

The County Clerk's Office (Clerk of the Superior Court) is located in Room 300, County Courthouse at: 1116 W Broadway Avenue Spokane, WA 99201.  

The office is open from 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, except for legal holidays.

3. Can I take a court file out of the Clerk's office to copy it?

The public may not remove a court file from the Clerk's Office. Files may be withdrawn to be taken to a courtroom or the Bar Association Office by the following persons on giving a written receipt: judges, court commissioners, deputy clerks, bailiffs, official court reporters, judicial assistants, court administrator's office, court facilitator staff, representatives from bail and/or bonding companies, attorneys, paralegals registered under LCR 54(e)(3), APR 9 legal interns, guardians ad litem and representatives of adoption agencies.

4. What does it cost to file a law suit in the Superior Court?

The filing fees for Superior Court matters are established by the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) and vary based on the type of case being filed. These fees are in accordance with RCW 36.18.016. Filing fees must be paid by cash, money order, cashiers check or an attorney trust account check. The Clerk does not accept debit or credit cards. 5. Where do I file court documents?

Documents for Superior Court cases may be filed in person at the County Clerk's Office or by mailing them to:

6. How do I obtain copies of documents from a court file?

You can obtain copies of documents both in person and by mail. There are fees for this service. For full information, please see the Obtaining Copies of Documents page.

8. Is there a way to file court documents online?

Yes. The Clerk's Office has been working diligently to provide the community with access to the justice system. The ability to eFile court documents is extremely important to these ends.

9. Why are some cases confidential or sealed?

Most Superior Court cases are open to the public. However, a matter may have been sealed by a court order or is a confidential matter by the type of case, such as an adoption. Rules governing confidential or sealed cases and documents are very specific as to who may or may not have access. If you have a question in this area, contact the Clerk's Office and you will be provided information regarding documents/cases that are restricted from access.

10. Do I need an attorney to do my legal work?

It is not required to obtain an attorney to file legal documents. However, if you should choose to proceed pro se (represent yourself) you will be held to the same standards by the court as an attorney. Find more information on the Attorney for Legal Work page.

11. How do I present my documents to the court?

You must present your documents to the court in person. You cannot have a family member or friend appear for you - only an attorney may represent another person in court. For full information, please see the Presenting Documents page.

12. What is the date, time and/or place of my court hearing?

13. How and where do I set a court date?

A court date for a Superior Court case is set by filing the proper Calendar Note with the County Clerk's Office. Calendar Notes are a county specific form and you should be sure to use the Spokane County forms to ensure that you are scheduled on the proper calendar. If you have questions, you should contact the specific court coordinator at the Superior Court Administrator's Office or the assigned judge's Judicial Assistant or District Court.
