New Charge at County Transfer Stations

Begins January 22, 2018

SPOKANE COUNTY, December 1, 2017 – Effective on January 22, 2018, a $2.00 Environmental Programs Charge (EPC) will be added to tipping fees (per vehicle) at the North County and Valley Transfer Stations.  Unfortunately, this is necessary due to severe cuts in state funding for state-mandated solid waste reduction and recycling programs.

Local governments are required by state law to provide comprehensive solid waste planning, programs and services.  In the past, the state provided the necessary funding, but the amount was dramatically cut.  The Environmental Programs Charge will compensate for the loss of state funding.

The EPC will also allow the county to continue providing essential services: FREE household hazardous waste disposal, FREE recycling drop off, and community outreach & education programs.

For more information and a full list of clean recyclables that are accepted at the North County & Valley transfer stations, go to www.spokancountysolidwaste.org or call our hotline at 509.477.6800.
