Major Crimes Detective Conclude Lengthy Investigation into the Shooting Death of Brenda Thurman

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detectives have concluded their investigation into the shooting death of Brenda Thurman and forwarded their findings to the Spokane County Prosecutor’s Officer for review.

After receiving a Washington State Patrol Crime Lab report stating the Glock pistol in question functioned reliably during testing combined with the information learned during their thorough investigation, detectives believe Dwayne K. Thurman acted with negligence causing the death of his wife, Brenda Thurman.  A charge of Manslaughter 2nd Degree was requested.

With the case being reviewed, no further information will be provided at this time.

Major Crimes Detectives Investigating Shooting

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detectives are investigating a reported shooting at a residence located in the 14100 block of East Sinto Avenue in Spokane Valley. 

On January 18th, 2016 at approximately 9:45 a.m., a male called 911 and reported his wife had been shot.  The female was transported to a local hospital for treatment prior to the arrival of Spokane Valley Sheriff’s Deputies.   

The scene was secured and Major Crimes Detectives and members of the Forensic Unit were called to the location. 

Initial information from the husband, who is cooperating with investigators, is the shooting was accidental, but this has not been confirmed yet by investigators.  

At the hospital, the female succumbed to her injury and was pronounced deceased. 

This is an ongoing investigation and no additional information is available at this time. 

The name of the husband is not being released pending further investigation and he has not been arrested.
