[ARCHIVED] Single Vehicle Crash, Driver Critically Injured

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a single vehicle crash at the intersection of Bruce Road and Day Mt. Spokane Road.  The 70-year-old male driver, and sole occupant of the vehicle, was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.

Just after midnight this morning, Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the intersection of Bruce Road and Day Mt. Spokane Road for a single vehicle crash.  A witness stated he checked on the driver, found him unresponsive and began CPR.  Fire personnel arrived within minutes and took over CPR.

Deputies learned the Ford was travelling north on Bruce Road and failed to stop at the stop sign at the T-intersection at Day Mt. Spokane Road before leaving the roadway.  The vehicle slammed into the embankment on the north side of the road and came to rest on a power pole anchor wire.

A second witness stated the Ford did not appear to slow down before the crash.

Spokane County Sheriff’s Traffic Investigators were called to the scene to continue the investigation.  SIRT Team Volunteers responded to assist with traffic control while the roads were closed for several hours.

Investigators believe impairment was a factor in the crash.  They obtained a search warrant to collect a blood sample from the driver for later testing.

The driver’s condition was last reported as critical with life threatening injuries.
