Firefighters and Deputies Respond to Deadly Early Morning House Fire in Millwood
Early this morning, Firefighters and Deputies responded to a house fire in the 9800 block of E. Dalton Avenue in Millwood. An adult male was transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Two children, believed to be 7 and 9 years old, and two family dogs were pulled from the burning home but could not be resuscitated. Major Crime Detectives and Fire Investigators are working to determine what started and occurred during this tragic and deadly fire.
On October 30, 2023, just before 2:50 am, a caller reported the neighbor’s house was on fire and children were inside the home.
Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies, Spokane Valley Deputies, Spokane Valley Firefighters, Spokane County Fire District 9 Firefighters, Spokane City Firefighters, and AMR medical personnel responded to the scene.
An adult male was contacted and transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Firefighters entered the burning home and retrieved two children and two family dogs, all unresponsive, and life-saving efforts began. Unfortunately, despite everyone’s efforts, the children and canines were pronounced deceased at the scene.
Major Crimes Detectives and Fire Investigators continue to investigate this deadly incident.
The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the names, along with cause and manner of death, of the deceased at a later time if/when appropriate.
