SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — On May 5, 2022, the Franklin County Coroner’s office was contacted by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office in regard to a deceased person located at the Scooteney Reservoir west of Connell. At that time the identity of the individual was not known, and it appeared based on the evidence at the scene that the body had been there for some time.
Through a collaborative effort with the Franklin County Sheriff’s office, a relative of a missing person was located out of Othello that matched the description of the deceased male. With a grant funded through the assistance of the Spokane County Medical Examiner's office, Othram Corporation was contracted to provide Genealogical DNA testing to compare the remains with the missing person's relative in Western Washington.
DNA testing confirmed the identity of the remains as Juanes Gasper, from Guatemala. Gaspar was a farm laborer who was in the Othello area for work.
"We are thankful for the assistance of all agencies involved in this investigation so that Gaspar’s family can now have some closure and make final arrangements for their loved one," said Curtis McGary D-ABMDI, Franklin County Coroner.
