UPDATE: Unattended Death Investigation-Dishman Hills
Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detectives continue the investigation of the deceased male located last night by Search and Rescue Volunteers in the Dishman Hills Trail area.
This is near where the reported missing person’s vehicle was located on September 12, 2023, at approximately 12:05 am. The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office is tasked with positive identification of deceased persons, and they are working to positively identify the deceased male who was located yesterday evening, as well as his official cause and manner of death.
With the initial information gathered last night at the scene, Investigators believe the decedent could be the missing person, but again, the official identification, which does take time to complete, will be determined by the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office. They will release this information, along with his cause and manner of death, when appropriate. Investigators noted they observed no apparent signs of a struggle in the area and no obvious signs of an assault or criminal activity when they processed the scene.
This remains an active Unattended Death investigation, and no further information is available at this point in the initial stages of the investigation.

Major Crimes Detectives Investigating an Unattended Death in the Dishman Hills Trails Area
Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detectives were called to the Dishman Hills area after Search and Rescue Volunteers located a deceased male while searching the vast wooded trail system for a reported missing person.
On September 12, 2023, Search and Rescue Volunteers located a deceased male while searching the Dishman Hills trail system for a reported missing adult after his vehicle was discovered in the parking area earlier today.
The scene was secured, and Major Crimes Detectives and Forensic Unit personnel were called to conduct the unattended death investigation.
The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office also responded and will determine the positive identity of the decedent in conjunction with his cause and manner of death. When appropriate, the Medical Examiner’s Office will release their findings.
This remains an active investigation, and no further information is available at this time.
