Fatal Auto/Pedestrian Crash in the 14200 block of E Sprague Avenue
Spokane Valley Deputies and Traffic Unit Investigators responded to a fatal vehicle/pedestrian crash on E. Sprague Avenue, between Bannen and Best Roads. Sprague Avenue was closed in both directions while this incident was investigated.
On September 9, 2023, just after 8:00 pm, Spokane Valley Deputies responded to a reported vehicle/pedestrian collision in the 14200 block of E. Sprague Avenue. The caller stated a person in a wheelchair was attempting to cross the dark, busy road roadway when he was struck.
Arriving Deputies closed the roadway and began an investigation as Spokane Valley Fire Personnel provided medical aid to the injured adult male.
The adult female driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Initial information indicated the vehicle was traveling east on Sprague in the lane closest to the center turn lane. The adult male was attempting to cross Sprague from north to south when he was struck. Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Spokane Valley Traffic Unit Technicians responded to collect evidence and document the scene as they continued to investigate what occurred.
The driver of the vehicle cooperated and was evaluated. From the initial information learned, impairment and speed are not believed to be factors in this incident.
This remains an active investigation, and no charges have been filed.
The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the name, along with the decedent's cause and manner of death, at a later time when appropriate.
