The Washington State Chapter of the American Public Works Association is holding their annual conference in Spokane this week. While the Davenport Grand Hotel is the headquarters for various meetings and workshops – the REAL excitement is taking place at the Fair and Expo Center’s west parking lot! It’s the annual Equipment ROADeo, where road crews from around the state will compete in three categories: Backhoe, Loader and Plow Trucks. For example, imagine barrel-racing with a snow plow…or trying to pick up a basket ball with a backhoe. Competitors earn points for their accuracy and time…and the winners take home bragging rights until next year’s competition.
The Spokane County Public Works Department will present a serious challenge…considering that during the National ROADeo in Denver, our own Carl Kent took third place in the Bobcat competition and was among the top ten for Loader!
The Public Works “Rough Riders” that are competing today are:
• Ken DeGon
• Matt Durheim
• Carl Kent
• Jeff Luiten
• Richard Salinas
• Levi Scrimsher
