[ARCHIVED] Suspect in North Newport Highway Shooting Arrested

Suspect in North Newport Highway Shooting Arrested

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Major Crime Detectives developed probable cause to arrest the suspect who fled after shooting an adult male victim in the leg on December 20, 2022.  A search for the suspect after the shooting was unsuccessful.  This afternoon, with the assistance of Spokane Police Officers, the suspect was arrested in North Spokane and booked into the Spokane County Jail.

On December 20, 2022, at approximately 10:00 pm., Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a reported shooting at 10904 N. Newport Hwy. (North Spokane RV Campground), in Spokane County.

Deputies arrived and contacted an adult male victim lying on the ground and screaming.  Deputies observed what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the 40-year-old victim’s leg.  They provided medical assistance until Spokane County Fire personnel arrived to assist.

The victim was transported to the hospital for what appeared to be a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his leg.

Deputies learned the suspect, 35-year-old Cody R. Woods, arrived at the location and was known to the victim.  A disagreement escalated, and Woods pulled out a handgun, shot the victim in the leg, and fled the area.

A perimeter was established, but the search for Woods was unsuccessful.

Major Crimes Detectives and Spokane County Forensic Technicians responded to the scene to collect evidence and continue the investigation.

On December 23, 2022, just before 1:30 pm., with the assistance of Spokane Police Officers, Woods was located and eventually taken into custody without incident.

Major Crimes Detectives booked Woods into the Spokane County Jail for Assault 1st Degree, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 1st Degree, and Violation of a Domestic Violence Order.  In addition, he was charged with a second count of Violation of a Domestic Violence Order by SPD stemming from a separate incident.
