[ARCHIVED] Single-Car Fatal Crash on N. Wood Road

Single-Car Fatal Crash on N. Wood Road

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit Investigators responded to the scene of a one-vehicle fatal crash in the 8000 block of N. Wood Road.  The adult female driver, and sole occupant of the vehicle, was severely injured and transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.

On December 3, 2022, at approximately 11:20 pm, Spokane County Deputies responded to the report of a serious injury crash in the 8000 block of N. Wood Road.

The caller stated the car crashed into a tree, airbags were deployed, and the adult female driver appeared trapped inside.

Deputies arrived to find a black Acura MDX approximately 15 feet off the east side of the roadway.  The SUV had severe damage from striking the tree, and Spokane County Fire District 10 had to cut open the car to extricate the driver.  She was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.

Traffic Unit Investigators were called to the scene.   They noted the Acura was traveling south on N. Wood Road in an area where the roadway was marked with 15 mph cautionary corners.  Initial information indicates the vehicle was traveling too fast for the road conditions, and the driver was unable to maintain control of the car as it entered a right-hand curve.  The SUV crossed over the centerline into the northbound lane, left the roadway, and hit a tree.

The driver was wearing a seatbelt, and speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the deadly crash.  At this time, it is unknown if impairment was a factor.

The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the name, along with the cause and manner of death, at a later time, when appropriate.
