UPDATE: Bus/Pedestrian Serious Injury Crash on S. Sullivan Road

The juvenile pedestrian remains in the hospital, listed in critical condition.

Bus/Pedestrian Serious Injury Crash on S. Sullivan Road

The Spokane Valley Traffic Unit is investigating a school bus/pedestrian crash on Sullivan Road and 8th Avenue.  The pedestrian was transported to the hospital and listed in critical condition.  

S. Sullivan Road will be closed, between 4th Avenue and 8th Avenue, for the next couple of hours while the investigation is conducted.     

On September 2, 2022, at approximately 10:25 pm., Spokane Valley Deputies responded to the scene of a traffic crash on S. Sullivan Road, at 8th Avenue, involving a Central Valley School bus and a juvenile female.  

The juvenile was transported to the hospital and was listed in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.  The bus driver remained at the scene and is cooperating.

Due to the severe injuries sustained, Traffic Unit Investigators were called to the scene to conduct the investigation.  SIRT Team Volunteers responded to assist with traffic control as Sullivan Road, between 4th Avenue and 8th Avenue, was closed for the investigation.  

Initial information indicates the bus was traveling north on S. Sullivan approaching 8th Avenue and struck the pedestrian as she crossed Sullivan from west to east.  Witnesses stated the traffic light for the bus was green at the time of the collision.  

Impairment is not believed to be a factor in the incident, and the bus driver has not been charged.
