[ARCHIVED] Sexual Assault Unit Detectives Request Public’s Help

Sexual Assault Unit Detectives Request Public’s Help

Sexual Assault Unit (SAU) Investigators ask for the public’s help as they investigate a reported sexual assault that occurred on Monday, August 15, 2022, at approximately 12:30 am. in the area of 55th Avenue and S. Freya Street.

On August 15, 2022, a Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputy contacted an adult female victim reporting a sexual assault.

The victim stated she was walking home from a family member’s house at approximately 12:20-12:30 am.  As she walked east on 55th, near S. Freya Street, an unknown male approached her from behind.    The suspect grabbed her, forcefully pushed her head and body to the ground, and held her down.  The suspect reached beneath her pants and forcefully grabbed her genitalia.

During the violent assault, the victim heard a female voice (possibly a resident of the area) begin to yell, asking what was happening.  The victim believes the yelling startled the suspect, who suddenly stopped the attack and fled to the north and into the wooded area.

The victim believes her attacker was taller than her (above 5’11”) and that he had a deep voice.

SAU Investigators would like to contact the female that probably caused this attacker to flee or anyone with information regarding this sexual assault.

Detectives also ask residents or business owners in the area, who have surveillance cameras that capture the roadways, to check their recordings between August 14, 2022, at 11:30 pm. and August 15, 2022, at 12:45 am for anything suspicious, including pedestrian or vehicular traffic.

Anyone with information or “tips” regarding this sexual assault are urged to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233, reference #10106491.
