Traffic Unit Assists with Fatal Crash in Cheney 

 

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit Investigators are investigating a fatal vehicle/scooter crash in the City of Cheney.  

 

This remains an active investigation, and impairment is not believed to be a factor.  

 

On July 7, 2022, at approximately 5:40 pm., Officers with the Cheney Police Department responded to a vehicle/scooter crash at 1st Street and 2nd Street in Cheney.   

 

Due to the severity of the injuries, Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit Investigators responded to investigate per the request of Cheney PD.

 

Initial information indicates the adult driver of the vehicle stopped at the stop sign on the west side of the intersection before turning north on 1st Street, in front of the scooter traveling south.  The adult male driver of the scooter was unable to avoid the vehicle.

 

The scooter driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.

 

The driver of the vehicle was transported to the hospital for continued care and evaluation.   His injuries did not appear to be severe. 

 

Impairment is not believed to be a factor in this fatal crash.    

 

The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the name of the deceased, along with the cause and manner of death, at a later date, when appropriate.
