UPDATE: The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office has positively identified the body recovered from the Spokane River near Downriver Golf Course on the afternoon of June 19, 2022. The family of the deceased has been contacted.
A check of the Medical Examiner’s webpage shows the information, including the name and cause/manner of death, has not been posted.
Body Recovered from Spokane River
Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detectives are investigating the discovery of a body in the Spokane River. Detectives have begun an investigation to determine what occurred leading to the discovery Sunday afternoon.
The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death and later release the person’s name when appropriate.
On June 19, 2022, at approximately 1:05 pm., Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies, Spokane Police Officers, Spokane City Fire, Spokane Valley Fire, and Riverside State Park Rangers responded to the report of a possible body in the Spokane River.
First Responders located the body in the river in the general area of Down River Golf Course. The remains were recovered with the assistance of the Sheriff’s Office Dive Team, Spokane Regional Air Support Unit UAS Team, Spokane City, and Valley Fire Swift Water Rescue Teams.
Spokane County Major Crimes Detectives are investigating as they work to determine what occurred prior to Sunday’s discovery.
The Spokane Medical Examiner’s Office will confirm the person’s identity and the cause and manner of death. They will release information at a later date when deemed appropriate.
