Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detectives charged the suspect in last night’s fatal shooting on N. Altamont Street with Murder 1st Degree.  Investigators remained at the scene throughout the night and into the morning as they documented the scene and collected evidence.

On February 10, 2022, just after 8:00 p.m., Spokane County Deputies responded to the report of a shooting in the 7000 block of N. Altamont.  The caller, later identified as the suspect and son of the victim, stated there had been a murder at the location, and someone had been shot in the head.  He went on to say he shot the victim, his father.

Arriving Deputies contacted the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Drake B. Hughes, and detained him without incident.

Deputies located the victim, who was pronounced deceased, at the scene by medical personnel.

No other victims or people were located at the residence.  The scene was secured, and Major Crimes Detectives responded to continue the investigation.

During an interview with Detectives, Hughes waived his rights to remain silent and provided a statement admitting he shot and killed his father.

Hughes was booked into the Spokane County Jail for Murder 1st Degree (DV).

Investigators, Forensic Unit Technicians, and Traffic Unit Scene Technicians remained at the crime scene into the early morning hours as they processed the location for evidence and documented the scene.

The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the name of the decedent, along with cause and manner of death, at a later time when appropriate.
