Yesterday, you may have seen news reports that three suspects were arrested in Arizona in connection with a Stevens County Sheriff’s Office homicide investigation.
Last November two of our Search and Rescue Human Remains Detection K9 Teams assisted the Stevens County Sheriff’s Office during the investigation. Both K9 Teams “alerted” during the search, indicating that an odor of human remains, imitating from the area of a newly placed storage shed, were detected.
Stevens County Sheriff’s Office Detectives later recovered human remains, positively identified as the victim, Jerry Rasmussen, buried under the shed. An autopsy later concluded the victim’s cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head.
We would like to recognize and thank both Search and Rescue Human Remains Detection K9 Teams: K9 Inca/handler R. Moug and K9 Nyja/handler B. Everson.
We thank them, and all of our Search and Rescue Volunteers, for their selfless dedication to the citizens of Spokane County, our region, and specifically, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
