County Road Crews Prep for Wet Snow this Weekend
On Friday (January 28th), crews in all four road districts are applying liquid deicer to trouble spots (hills, curves, bridges), preparing for a weather system that will bring wet snow and slush to the area by Sunday. Meanwhile, higher elevations could see one-to-three inches of snow by Monday morning. The rest of the week (January 31 to February 4) looks to be mostly dry again, but there will still be a chance for a few scattered showers.
Next week, crews will be using the drier weather pattern to work on patching potholes that have developed. Potholes form when water seeps into the asphalt and then freezes. The ice weakens the substructure and damages the asphalt. The result is a pothole - a common problem in states that experience snow and freezing rain, that are followed by a periodic burst of warmer temperatures and a quick thaw. In addition, during periods of snow and freezing rain, ditches and culverts can become plugged with chunks of compact snow/ice and in some cases even bushes and tree branches. Don't be surprised if you see crews patching potholes and clearing ditches/culverts of debris next week (January 31 to February 4, 2022).
