
UPDATE: Major Crimes Detectives Arrest Murder Suspect
Through their continued homicide investigation, Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detectives identified a suspect as 23-year-old Ezekiel R. Mentell. Detectives established probable cause to charge Mentell with Murder 1st Degree, and an arrest warrant was obtained.
Major Crimes Detectives, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force, and the Spokane Police Department, Mentell was located in the 300 block of W. Euclid this afternoon.
Mentell has been arrested for Murder 1st Degree and will be booked into the Spokane County Jail on his warrant.
This investigation is ongoing, and additional charges or arrests are possible. No further information is available at this time.

UPDATE: Death Investigation - Hayford Road
Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detectives have cleared the scene on Hayford Road. With the assistance of the Spokane County Sheriff’s Air Support Unit UAS Team, Forensic Unit Technicians, and Traffic Unit Investigators, Detectives processed the scene.
In the coming days, the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the decedent's identity along with the cause and manner of death.
Major Crimes Detectives received information at the scene that indicates this is possibly a homicide. They continue to comb over evidence and information as they work to determine the facts, circumstances, and timeline leading up to today’s discovery of the deceased.
As this is an active investigation, no further information is available at this time.

Major Crimes Detectives Begin Death Investigation
Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and Major Crimes Detective are in the initial steps of a death investigation on N. Hayford Road.
On December 2, 2021, at approximately 10:10 a.m., Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a deceased person in the area of N. Hayford Road and W. Balmer Road.
Deputies located a deceased person, immediately secured the scene, and contacted Major Crimes Detectives.
Detectives are now in the initial phase of the investigation as they work to determine the identity of the deceased and the facts of what occurred.
We will provide an update as soon as Investigators have factual information to release.
