Update: Assault Suspect Identified, Charges Requested

Earlier this week, Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies identified a male suspected in the unprovoked assault of a female victim in front of Duvall Hall at Whitworth University on August 29, 2021.

As the investigation continued, they developed probable cause to request the suspect, 44-year-old Tony R. Lee, be charged with felony Assault 2nd Degree.

Lee is currently being held in the Spokane County Jail for an unrelated arrest by a Spokane Police Officer on August 30, 2021, as a Fugitive from Justice due to an extraditable Kentucky probation violation warrant.

The victim stated an unknown male approached her near the entrance of Duvall Hall at Whitworth University.  She briefly spoke with the man but became uneasy and began to back away from him.   The suspect struck her 3 or 4 times as she screamed for help.  The male left the scene as others came to the victim’s aid.

The male suspect is described as a black male, late 30’s to early 40’s, wearing a dark blue polo shirt and dark pants.  Continuing, she stated the suspect was of average height, a little overweight, and bald.   She did not believe the suspect had facial hair.

The area was searched, but no one matching the description of the suspect was located.   The assault is believed to have occurred just before 11:00 pm when the initial 911 call was received.
