People Boating or Recreating on Long Lake
Please AVOID the Area Between Tum Tum and the Long Lake Dam
Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol Deputies are assisting firefighting efforts with the Ford Corkscrew Fire. Unfortunately, these efforts are being hampered by people boating, recreating in the area, or simply watching the firefighting airplanes as they drop in to fill their tanks.
Please, AVOID the area of Long Lake, downstream from Tum Tum toward the Long Lake Dam, during daylight hours for the rest of today, tomorrow, and possibly beyond. If you are in one of the several flight paths of these critical firefighting planes, they will not drop to lake level to fill their tanks.
This is for YOUR safety and theirs!
We understand these planes are fascinating to watch, but please do so from shore. We are asking for boat traffic and others who are recreating to stay out of the area for today and all day tomorrow, during daylight hours. The need to keep this area of Long Lake clear of firefighting efforts may need to be extended depending on the fire situation and risk to property and life.
