Road Construction and Maintenance Update

August 13-20, 2021

 
SPOKANE COUNTY, August 13, 2021 – Along with a variety of construction and maintenance projects, there are two large "Citizen Events" that will have hundreds of cyclists and runners on county roads. Please slow down and watch for flaggers. For more information, contact Spokane County Public Works at (509) 477-3600.

 

ROAD CONSTRUCTION

57th Ave- Perry St. to Mt. Vernon Rd. *****Tentative Start date 8/23/21*****
 Constructing ADA ramps, median island construction, HMA grinding and paving. Lane Closures & narrow lanes - use alternate route.

 

Bigelow Gulch Phase 3
Road Reconstruction (remove and replace), culverts, stormwater, guardrail and illumination system. Completed: August 31, 2021. 

Weile Ave: from Thierman Rd to Bigelow Gulch Rd 

Motorists should expect lane restrictions (both directions, both lanes). Road is OPEN!

 

Bigelow Gulch Rdfrom Weile Ave to Argonne Rd

Motorists should expect lane restrictions (both directions, both lanes). Road is OPEN!

 

Chattaroy CTB
 Crews are pulverizing the existing pavement and using Portland cement Type 2, spreading and mixing and other work. Completed: August 31, 2021.

From US2 to Elk-Chattaroy/Hardesty Intersection – Fully CLOSED on July 19, 2021 (local traffic only).

Motorists should expect delays. Flaggers and a pilot car may be present. Please slow-down in the work zone.

 

Columbia Dr- Northwood to Argonne. *****Tenative start date 8/23/21*****
Roadway Excavation, ADA ramp installation, Pavement removal and repaving. Lane Closures and flagging. Full closure to through traffic in September. Look for signage and watch for updates.
 

Forker Road Culvert Replacement - 1/2 mile South of SR206

The culvert under the road is being replaced and a modular steel bridge installed. Completed: August 31, 2021.

Frideger Road Bridge Replacement
 The road is CLOSED while the existing bridge is being removed for the construction of a new structure over the Little Spokane River. The project includes the removal of the existing roadway and widening with the construction of the new roadway. Completed: October 31, 2021.

Frideger Rd: from Bridge #4902 Over Little Spokane River to Bridge #4902 Over Little Spokane River – Road is CLOSED – Bridge OUT!
Flaggers may be present (both directions, all lanes): Detour route in place on Bridges Road, Madison Road and Frideger Road. 

 

Guardrail Safety Project 
 Crews are installing new guardrails at the locations below. Completed: August 31, 2021.

Old SR-195 Hwy: from Bridge #3112 Over Pine Creek & BNSF to County Pit #13-22
Lane restrictions (both directions, all lanes). This is not the EXACT location. Project is from Mile Post 2.2 to Mile Post 3.1 

Williams Lake Rd: from Mullinix Rd to Weisman Rd 
Lane restrictions (both directions, all lanes). This is not the EXACT location. Project area is Mile Post .90 to 1.72. 

Valley Chapel Rd: from Palouse Hy to Bridge Over Stevens Creek
Lane restrictions (both directions, all lanes): This is not the EXACT location. Project is from Mile Post .25 to Mile Post .90

Cheney-Plaza Rd: from Rock Lake Rd to Pine Grove Rd 
Lane restrictions (both directions, all lanes). This is not the EXACT location. Project location is Mile Post 10.4 to Mile Post 12.5.

Morrison Ranch Phase 2 – ROAD CLOSED
Red Diamond Construction (509-990-5426) crew is realigning south Barker Road at 32nd Avenue. The project includes grading and paving. Completed: August 13, 2021.

32nd Av: from Barker Rd to Saltese Lake Rd 
Road Closed: E. Saltese Rd. at 32nd Avenue and S. Barker Rd. approximately 1,500-feet east of the intersection. 
 

Repair Gas Service
 Avista (800-227-9187) crew is repairing gas service on the south side of Upriver Drive and east of Argonne Road. Completed: September 24, 2021.

Upriver Dr: from Argonne Rd to Willow Rd 
Lane restrictions (both directions, all lanes): East-bound lane shift and sidewalk closure. Road Closed: Hayford Rd is closed at Richland – detours are in place: Westbow to Aero Rd. and Melville to Thomas Mallen. 

 

Underground COAX Installation
 Sefnco Communications (800-385-2903) crew is installing an underground COAX Cable just south of Baade Road on the east side of Perry Road. Dates: August 17-27, 2021.

Flaggers may be present (both directions, all lanes): Please slow-down in the work zone.


CITIZEN EVENT BY PERMIT


River City Cycling Classic – Bob Stroker Memorial Time Trial (8:00-11:00 a.m.) and Liberty Lake Road Race
 First race will start at Chester Community Church at 11703 E. Dishman Mica Roads and include Dishman Mica and Vicari Road. Liberty Lake Road Race will begin at Liberty High School at 6404 E. Spangle Waverly Roads and include Spangle Waverly Road and Old SR-195. Date: August 14, 2021.

Asphalt Overlay - Various Roads in Spokane County 
 Overlay is a paving method of applying a new layer of asphalt to a deteriorating surface. Dates: August 16-26, 2021.


Short Rd: from Stevens County Line to Deer Park City Limits 
Motorists should expect delays in both directions and all lanes. Be prepared to stop and watch for flaggers.


Spotted Rd: from US-395 to Stevens County Line

Chip Seal - Various Roads in Spokane County 
 Chip Seal is the application of a special protective wearing surface to an existing pavement. Dates vary (see below).

 

Dates: August 16-19, 2021.


Jackson Rd: from Morris Rd to Valley Chapel Rd

Euclid Rd Bridge CLOSED
 Euclid Rd Bridge is closed and a detour is in place. Replacing the bridge is the responsibility of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad.

Fog Sealing
 Fog Sealing is the application of a thin, quick-drying oil over the top of the chip seal. This preserves the integrity of the road. Dates: August 9-13, 2021.

Waikiki Rd: from Mill Rd to Whitworth Dr

Shoulder Preservation
