[ARCHIVED] Detention Services Offering Signing Bonuses for New Recruits

SPOKANE COUNTY, August 11, 2021– The Spokane County Board of Commissioners have authorized an update to the Sign-On Bonus Policy for Spokane County Detention Services (SCDS) to include additional flexibility for Detention Services to offer enhanced sign-on bonuses of up to $10,000 for individuals looking to be hired by SCDS.

Additional details and information about the specific sign-on bonus information for each open position will be posted in the specific job postings. 

SCDS is seeking applicants for numerous open positions. SCDS is currently hiring and inviting individuals to submit applications for the following positions:

Detention Services Corrections Officers

As an essential component of the Spokane County justice system, Corrections Officers work with inmates to ensure their safety and security while addressing their involvement in the justice system. The Corrections Officers role encompasses a variety of duties, including supervision of work crews, programs, transportation, court related duties, training, classification, and other duties. 

Corrections Officers have advancement opportunities to grow and fulfill a career of public service with Spokane County. Corrections Officers have opportunities to advance with specialty assignments being offered in the tactical response team, field training officer, security threat teams, training instructors, or the law library.   

Training or experience: High school graduate or hold a GED certificate –AND- a minimum of two (2) years of full-time responsible work experience post High School.   Please note:  Related college coursework (such as Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Criminal Justice, etc.) may substitute year for year for experience.

Salary: $49,753.44 - $63,864.48 Annually

Detention Services Technical Assistant

Performs and takes responsibility for various technical and/or clerical duties in a unit of a corrections department using various computer programs and/or operating technical equipment. 

Training or experience: High school graduate or equivalent.  Two (2) years, full-time, responsible work.  

Salary: $30,120.24 - $40,643.28 Annually

Detention Services Cook

Work involving the preparation of all food and supervision of inmates on a shift in the kitchen at either of the County's Correctional Facilities. 

Skill in:

  • Preparation and cooking of starches, vegetables, meats, poultry, baking.
  • Operation of all food equipment listed above. 

Salary: $36,505.44 - $49,259.04 Annually
