Sexual Assault Detective Arrests Suspect

This morning, a Detective assigned to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Sexual Assault Unit arrested and booked 38-year-old Nathan R. Nash into the Spokane County Jail on two felony charges.

On July 20, 2021, Spokane County Sheriff’s Sexual Assault Unit (SAU) Detective Brad Humphrey was assigned a new case involving Nash, a former Spokane Police Officer.

The complaint that began this investigation was received from Spokane Police Department Officials after they received information from the victim.  The incident reported by the victim occurred on July 6, 2019, and identified Nash, who at that time was employed as a Spokane Police Officer.

In late October of 2019, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office conducted a separate and unrelated investigation, resulting in Nash being arrested and booked into the Spokane County Jail for Rape 2nd Degree and two counts of Official Misconduct in November 2019.

Nash was later released on his Own Recognizance by the court and has not been settled by trial.  Nash pled not guilty to these charges and was subsequently terminated by the Spokane Police Department.

Although these cases are unrelated, both investigations stemmed from allegations made by victims Nash met when he responded to calls where they were reporting as victims initially.  Both sexual assault victims said Nash responded to their original calls and later responded to conduct “follow-up” and document injuries, and the victims stated Nash sexually assaulted them.  During these “follow-up” contacts, Nash responded alone.

This morning, August 4, 2021, after an extensive and thorough investigation, Detective Humphrey developed probable cause to charge and arrest Nash for Rape 2nd Degree and Unlawful Imprisonment.  Soon after, Nash was then booked into the Spokane County Jail on those charges.

This remains an active investigation, and no additional information is available at this time.
