UPDATE: Zion Carter Arrested
This afternoon, Airway Heights Police and Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, Major Crimes Investigators received information Zion J. Carter was arrested for his warrant for two counts of Murder 1st Degree (attempted), and a felony Washington State Department of Corrections hold, in Pierce County.
Carter will be extradited to Spokane County to stand trial as soon as possible.
We thank everyone in our community who has provided information and been vigilant as your local law enforcement agencies worked together seamlessly to investigate, identify, and locate Zion Carter.
We also thank the Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force members, the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, and members of Rig 9 for their assistance during the investigation of this brutal crime.

Crime Stoppers of the Inland Northwest Offers a Cash Reward for information that helps Detectives locate 38-year-old Zion J. Carter. Carter is suspected of brutally shooting his wife and his 11-year-old stepdaughter.
The shooting occurred on July 27, 2021, just before 3:50 a.m., at a residence in the 1000 block of S. Aspen St. in Airway Heights, WA.
After the shooting, Zion Carter is believed to have fled the scene in a silver 2018 Nissan Rogue with WA license plates BQT0555, leaving his wife and 11-year-old stepdaughter bleeding from their wounds.
Airway Heights Police and Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detectives continue to ask for your help in locating Zion Carter and for any tips or information regarding this violent shooting.
Zion J. Carter is a 6-time convicted felon with convictions for Assault 1st Degree, Robbery 1st Degree, Custodial Assault, Assault 2nd Degree, Possession of a Firearm 2nd Degree, and Taking a Motor Vehicle without Permission. He was just released early from prison in March and placed on parole with the Washington State Department of Corrections.
Zion J. Carter should be considered Armed and Dangerous. Do NOT approach him and call 911 immediately.

July 28, 2021
Airway Heights, WA. – Airway Heights Police Officers and Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a domestic violence-related shooting in the 1000 block of S. Aspen St. on July 27, 2021, at about 3:50 am. Upon arrival, Officer’s found two female victims suffering from gunshot wounds, a mother and her eleven-year-old daughter. Both victims were transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The suspected shooter has been identified as the husband and step-father, Zion J. Carter, a 38-year-old black male who stands at about 6’7” tall and weighs about 250 lbs. Zion has long hair in dreadlocks, which he sometimes wears up under a hat.
It is believed that Zion fled the scene in a silver 2018 Nissan Rogue with Washington license plate BQT0555.
Due to the extremely violent nature of this incident, the Airway Heights Police Department requested assistance from the Spokane County Major Crimes Unit. After a thorough investigation was completed at the crime scene, Detectives from both the Airway Heights Police Department and Spokane County Major Crimes Unit are working tirelessly with assistance from the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, the Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force, and numerous other agencies from across the state to locate Zion Carter and take him into custody
We are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Zion Carter, however; Do Not Attempt Contact and Call 911 immediately. Zion Carter should be considered Armed and Dangerous.
