Single Car Fatal Crash in West Spokane County

Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a single-vehicle fatality crash in West Spokane County.  The adult driver of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The adult passenger received medical attention but was not transported to a hospital.

On June 10, 2021, just after 7:00 p.m., Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the report of a vehicle that crashed through a backyard fence at a residence in the 9100 block of W. Sugar Street, and one male was dead.

Deputies, Spokane County Fire, and AMR personnel arrived at the location to find a 2018 Tesla with extensive damage in the backyard of a residence.

The adult male driver (30s) was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The adult male passenger (30s) was provided medical attention but declined further treatment and was not transported to a hospital.

Traffic Unit Investigators responded to continue the investigation.

Initial information indicates the deceased driver was not the Tesla owner but had permission to drive the vehicle.  The car was traveling north on S. Thomas Mallon Road at high speeds as it approached the intersection with Hallett Road.

The driver did not slow down and continued through the stop sign at S. Thomas Mallon Road and Hallett Road.  He lost control of the Tesla and slid off the roadway into a vacant lot before crashing through the fence of a residence on W. Sugar Road.

The passenger, who was cooperative with Deputies at the scene, stated he told the driver multiple times to slow down.

This remains an active investigation, and no further information is available at this time.
