[ARCHIVED] 2021 Valuation Notices for 2022 Property Taxes to be mailed this week

SPOKANE COUNTY, June 7, 2021 – Spokane County Assessor, Tom Konis announced today that his office will begin mailing 211,111 real property valuation notices, June 7, 2021.

The assessment on the notices is what 2022 property taxes will be based on. Assessed values are provided to 55 taxing districts as a basis for each of those districts to develop their own levy rates which are finalized in January 2022 by each taxing district, independently from the Assessor’s Office.

New construction notices will be mailed out in October of 2021.

Property assessments are as of January 1, 2021. Values are determined by analyzing real estate sales in 969 statistical neighborhoods. The real estate market for residential properties remains robust with values escalating and many properties receiving multiple offers and selling above the list price. Commercial properties have seen a mixture of changes with some sectors struggling due to COVID-19 restrictions and others thriving, especially multifamily housing and industrial properties.

Sales used to establish assessed values are listed on the Assessor’s website.  Search parcel information by address or parcel number and select sales search on the tool bar. There is the option of neighborhood sales or comparable sales. The last three years of sales will display, however recent sales are the best indicator of market value.

For questions about assessments, the best way to contact the Assessor’s Office is by e-mail. The e-mail address is printed at the top of valuation notices above the valuation information. In addition, the phone number of the appraiser assigned to the property is also listed on the notice.

Under the current state guidelines, because of COVID-19 restrictions, offices in the Courthouse lobby, including the Assessor’s Office, is not open to the public at this time. Telephone calls will be answered but may be delayed by several days.
