[ARCHIVED] UPDATE: Search for Missing Boater on Newman Lake

UPDATE: At approximately 3:30 p.m., members of the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit and Dive Team recovered the body of the victim in the area of last night’s tragic accident.

The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the name of the victim when appropriate to do so.

Last night, just prior to 10:00 p.m., Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the report of a missing boater on Newman Lake.

Deputies learned two adult males, without life jackets, were in the small 8 foot aluminum boat when it turned over putting both of them into the water. Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit, Dive Team members and Air 1 were called to the scene to search for the victim but he was not located.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing and the Marine Unit and Dive Team members will return to the scene to continue the search later today.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.
