2021 Recycling Calendar
Special contributor: Kris Major, Solid Waste Education Coordinator, City of Spokane
In case you haven’t already guessed, it’s the annual Spokane County Recycles Calendar that features more than a dozen hand-drawn pictures by Spokane County students. Their colorful work helps raise awareness of our need to reduce waste. This year’s theme is “Erase the Waste: Reduce, Reuse, THEN Recycle!”
The annual competition, open to students in kindergarten through the eighth grade, is sponsored by the Spokane County Regional Solid Waste System and is part of “America Recycles Day” activities taking place around the country through November 15, 2020. The calendar competition is an annual educational outreach project that is done in partnership with Spokane County school districts and the City of Spokane’s Solid Waste Disposal Department.
During the week of November 9-15, thirty grade-level finalists had their work displayed on the second floor of River Park Square. Of those finalists, 15 were selected to have their posters illustrate the 2021 Spokane County Recycles calendar.
A limited number of calendars will be available free-of-charge from the City of Spokane Solid Waste Disposal Department administration office beginning in late December. Call (509) 625-6580 or email [email protected] to reserve yours!
