SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. – Effective immediately, there will no longer be services on Saturdays for vehicle licensing throughout Spokane County. Vehicle licensing offices throughout Spokane County, with the exception of County Courthouse offices, have been open for in-person transactions since the beginning of COVID-19 restrictions. After the restrictions were put in place in mid-March, two of the eight offices remained open on Saturdays. Those offices will no longer be open on Saturdays.
The eight offices outside of the Courthouse will continue to be open Monday through Friday for in-person transactions. The eight subagent offices are privately owned businesses contracted to the County Auditor under authority of the State Department of Licensing. Locations and hours are available at www.dol.wa.gov.
“Keeping employees and customers safe during the COVID-19 pandemic has proven to be extremely difficult,” said Spokane County Auditor, Vicky Dalton. “On Saturdays, managing the lines of customers, maintaining adequate cleaning and scheduling staff has proven to be too complex and difficult to overcome.”
To bypass waiting in line, vehicle owners are encouraged to renew their tabs online or through the mail. If a vehicle owner must visit a licensing office in person, avoid the busy times of Monday morning, Friday afternoon and the beginning and end of the month.
For the past several months, the tab renewal notices from Department of Licensing have been late. With October renewals, the notices should arrive prior to expiration of the tabs.
Vehicle owners can complete most transactions online at www.dol.wa.gov. Online transactions are quick and convenient. These transactions include, but are not limited to, renewing vehicle tabs and boat registrations, reporting the sale of a vehicle or boat, changing vehicle address, calculating vehicle tab or boat decal fees, or replacing vehicle tabs or boat decals.
