SWAT Team Assists Deputies with Uncooperative DV Suspect
Spokane Valley Deputies, SWAT Team, and Hostage Negotiation Team members worked together to peacefully coax an uncooperative DV suspect into surrendering at a home in Spokane Valley. Broadway was closed between Walnut and Dartmouth, during this incident but will be open soon.
On July 25, 2020, at approximately 10:00 a.m., Spokane Valley Deputies responded to a residence in the 10000 block of E. Broadway for the report of a female screaming for help and male voices yelling in the background.
Arriving Deputies spoke with the male and female homeowners who had fled their residence.
Initial information indicated the adult son, 28-year-old Mason G. Day, pushed and hit his mother during an argument. From past incidents, the suspect is known to carry knives/swords and has been violent.
The SWAT Team and Hostage Negotiation Team responded to the scene to assist.
At approximately 1:30 p.m., Negotiators successfully talked Day into peacefully surrendering. Day walked out of the residence, followed commands, and was taken into custody without incident by awaiting SWAT Team members.
Day will be charged with Assault 4th Degree (DV) and booked into the Spokane County Jail.
Deputies remain on the scene as this investigation continues. Additional charges are possible as more information is learned.
