Entry Level, Intermediate Lateral & Lateral Deputy Applicants Wanted 

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office is hiring Deputies, and we’re looking for qualified applicants of all levels; Entry Level Deputies, Intermediate Lateral Deputies, and Lateral Deputies.

In addition to living in the Great Northwest and working in beautiful Spokane County, here are some of the benefits you’d receive as a Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Deputy:

** Pay:  As an Entry Level Deputy (Officer Candidate), you will be paid while attending the basic law enforcement academy.  Entry Level Deputies start at $4,013/month.  Once you pass the academy and are commissioned, Deputies base wages range from $4,823/month to $6,508/month after three years.

Intermediate Lateral and Lateral Deputies start at a higher rate of pay depending on experience.  You may also be eligible to receive a sign-on bonus of up to $3,000.  ** Conditions Apply ** 

We also have Education Incentives and Longevity Pay available in addition to Shift Differential Pay for working nights.

** Medical/Dental:  Two Medical and Two Dental plans to choose from and Life Insurance and Long-Term Disability Insurance available.

** Shifts/Leave/Other Incentives:  Patrol Deputies work 12-hour shifts (approximately 14 working days per month), receive 12 days of earned paid vacation per year and earn 1 day of Sick Leave per month.  Deputies will be enrolled in the LEOFF 2 Retirement System.  Deputies also take part in a Take-Home Car Program and receive 5 paid holidays and 7 paid personal holidays per year in addition to 1 paid Kelly Day off per month (in exchange for attending in-service training with your platoon on a scheduled day off).   

** We support members of our Armed Forces by awarding Veteran’s Preference Points on the entrance exam for qualified veterans and 21 days of paid Military Leave for AT/ADT.

Entry Level Deputy Minimum Requirements:  Must be a citizen of the United States of America or a lawful permanent resident who can read and write the English language; minimum age of 21 at the time of appointment, however, may test at age 20 as long as the applicant turns 21 during the life of the eligibility list; high school graduate or GED; no felony convictions as an adult; must hold a valid driver’s license at time of appointment and during employment; good health; hearing standards based upon the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine standards (4.6.2.1.1 Threshold Testing); see, feel, smell, touch, speak and move about (with or without corrective devices) to perform the duties, responsibilities, tasks and essential functions required or assigned to this position.

Intermediate Lateral: (in addition to the minimum requirements) applicants must have successfully completed the Washington State Criminal Justice Basic Law Enforcement Academy, no patrol experience required.  

Lateral Deputy: (in addition to the minimum requirements) applicants must have successfully completed the Washington State Criminal Justice Basic Law Enforcement Academy, the Basic Equivalency Academy or have the ability to obtain an equivalency certificate prior to completion of one year’s probation with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.  Lateral must have successfully completed probation and have a minimum of TWO years sworn, non-military patrol officer experience with a single agency.
