Deputy Involved Shooting in North Spokane
On January 10, 2020, at approximately 3:50 a.m., a Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop, of a vehicle, near the intersection of N. Wall and W. Weile.
The vehicle failed to stop, as required by law, for the Deputy. Shortly after the stop was initiated, the car crashed into a residential fence. The driver, Clando Anitok (25 years-old), got out of his vehicle, faced the Deputy and failed to follow multiple commands. The lone Deputy deployed his Taser, the probes made contact with Anitok but the Taser was not effective. Anitok ran into the backyard of a residence, followed by the Deputy.
Moments later, and still not following commands, Anitok stopped and turned toward the Deputy, then reached into the front waistband area.
The Deputy fired one round from his handgun, striking Anitok. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by medics.
