[ARCHIVED] Crews working 12-hour shifts to clear residential areas.

Since the snow started falling on Friday, January 10th, Spokane County road crews have been working 12-hour shifts to maintain the largest county road district in the state (almost 5,000 lane miles). While the back-to-back snow events forced crews to return to clearing emergency routes and primary arterials, progress has been made since Sunday (Jan. 12, 2020), and they are now working to clear residential areas.

The hardest hit areas of the county are north of Spokane (Wandermere, Mt. Spokane State Park, Deer Park, and Newman Lake), where more than 18-inches of snow has accumulated. Meanwhile, there has been some blowing and drifting reported in the southern half of the county.

With a break in the weather expected on Wednesday and crews continuing their 24/7 schedule, Public Works’ officials hope to have the entire road system cleared by Thursday evening or Friday morning…just in time for another round of snow.

Citizens may track the progress of crews by going to www.spokanecounty.org/publicworks and clicking on the “Snow Plow Activity Map” on the home page.
