[ARCHIVED] Road crews work throughout weekend to tackle back-to-back storms.

Crews Working 12-hour Shifts to Clear Snow

Since the snow started falling Friday morning, Spokane County road crews have been plowing, sanding and deicing the largest county road system in the State of Washington (almost 5,000 lane miles). As the snow continues to fall and more expected this weekend, crews will continue working 24/7 until the entire road system is cleared.

Maintenance and Operations Superintendent Andy Schenk reminded the public that with back-to-back storms expected, it will be difficult to clear the entire road system until next week. “We have more than 70 pieces of equipment, ranging from plows and graders to sanding and deicing trucks keeping emergency routes and primary arterials as clear as possible. Our crews will work throughout the weekend and around the clock to make as much progress as possible. Please slow down, stay 50-feet behind our equipment, and never try to pass us on the right,” he said.

Citizens may track the progress of crews by going to www.spokanecounty.org/publicworks and clicking on the “Snow Plow Activity Map” on the home page.
