SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. – On Friday, Nov. 22, 2019, Spokane County will join courts across the country to commemorate more than 45 local foster children and youths who will legally join their “Forever Family” on National Adoption Day.
Currently, Spokane County has 1,643 children and youths in our local foster care system. There are also 383 children and youth under the age of 18, just waiting for their “Forever Family.” Of those 383 children and youth, 192, have been legally ready for over 6 months and are still waiting for their “Forever” to begin.
Spokane County Superior Court is proud to join the collective efforts of hundreds of Department of Children, Youth and Families caseworkers, CASAs (Court-Appointed Special Advocates), Staff GALs (Guardians ad Litem), attorneys, and judges working together on one special day to celebrate foster children receiving “forever families”.
Not only, is this annual event designed to celebrate those children and youths receiving permanency through adoption, but to also raise awareness regarding our local foster care system and the many ways our community can help. Not everyone can be a foster parent, but ANYONE can help a foster child/youth. We need foster parents, volunteer drivers, CASA Advocates along with many other supportive roles. Every child is entitled to a safe, nurturing and bright future.
Local organizations; Wish Upon a Star Events, Embrace Washington, Spokane Chiefs, Starbucks, Pizza Rita, CASA Partners, Dutch Bros Coffee, McDonald’s, Marnie Brenden Photography, Coordinated Care, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Papa Murphy’s, 4 Degrees Realty, and local attorneys; Jodi M. Felice, Mark R. Iverson, Nicole T. Koyama will participate in this special day, working together to celebrate the joys of adoption and raise awareness.
