Spokane County Commissioner Al French and County Engineer Chad Coles held a town hall meeting on September 16th for the residents/motorists affected by the Euclid Road Bridge closure. The bridge is the property of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad, but county engineers conduct visual safety inspections every two years. After finding two critical failures in the bridge's substructure, the county closed access to the bridge in mid-June. Since then, a three-mile detour has been in place that includes gravel roads. The increase in traffic (and speeding) has taken a toll on the detour roads, as well as some nearby roads that motorists are using as an alternate route to the detour.
Almost 180 people attended the town hall meeting to learn more about the situation and ask questions about potential solutions and partnerships that Public Works is exploring. The PowerPoint that was presented at the meeting is available here.
