SVPD P-Release

Traffic Unit Investigates Vehicle Found in the Spokane River

Spokane Valley Traffic Unit personnel are investigating the circumstances leading up to a vehicle being found in the south side of the Spokane River in the 17600 block of E. Montgomery in Spokane Valley.  Spokane Valley Fire Water Rescue Team and the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team responded to the scene and the body of an adult female was recovered from the vehicle.

On December 12, 2018, at approximately 8:40 a.m., a caller reported seeing a vehicle in the Spokane River, on the south side, between Flora Road and Long Road.  The caller stated no one was seen near the vehicle.

Spokane Valley Fire Water Rescue and Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team members responded to assist Spokane Valley Deputies at the scene and recovered the body of an adult female from the vehicle.

Evidence at the scene indicates the vehicle turned north from Montgomery on a private drive.  The vehicle continued north, past the dead-end, over the steep embankment and came to rest upside down and partially submerged in the river.

Investigators are working to determine the events leading up to the deadly incident.

The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the name of the decedent, along with cause and manner of death, when appropriate.
