Person Attempting to Make Explosive Device Severely Injured


Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detectives continue to investigate last night’s incident where it was reported an adult male was attempting to construct an explosive device when it exploded.  The male was transported by Life Flight to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.  It is not known what the male’s intentions were but witnesses state they believe he suffers from mental illness and has not been taking his medications.  

 

On October 8, 2018 at approximately 6:15 p.m., Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a reported explosion where an adult male was severely injured at a residence located in the 35800 block of N. Waldrons Ln. in North Spokane County.


Initial information gained at the scene from witnesses indicates the 59-year-old male was attempting to make some type of explosive device when it unexpectedly detonated.  The male is reported to have mental health issues, may not have been taking his medications, and appeared to be paranoid.


The male suffered severe, life-threatening injuries and was transported by Life Flight to an area hospital where as of this morning, he was listed in critical condition. 


Due to the severity of this incident, Major Crimes Detectives and Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) Technicians responded to the scene to continue the investigation into this incident. 


No one else at the residence sustained injuries.


No arrests have been made at this time but are possible depending on the outcome of this ongoing investigation.  No further information is available at this time.
