Extremely Volatile Situation Ends in Despair & Suicide
A domestic violence incident last night in Greenacres involving an armed male could have ended in multiple deaths inside the home, Deputies being injured/shot or many other ways. Last night, thankfully none of those occurred. Unfortunately, it still ended with a life lost; a father, friend, a young man who felt his only choice was to end his own life.
Last night’s incident began just like a lot of domestic violence calls here in our community and across our nation. A relationship deteriorating, but not completely over, causing erratic emotions ranging from anger, sadness, hope, despair, confusion and everything in between. But suddenly, the incident escalated to an extremely unstable, volatile, and potentially deadly situation when the male fired a pistol, breaking a sliding glass door to enter the residence of his estranged wife. Also inside, another adult and three young children.
Spokane Valley Deputies, Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies and Liberty Lake Police Officers raced to the scene hoping to end things peacefully but fearing a potentially violent and deadly outcome. As Deputies/Officers arrived at the residence, they were advised the male shot himself tragically taking his own life without anyone else being physically injured.
Suicides and attempted suicides occur far too often in our community and in our nation. The feelings of desperation, sadness, confusion, failure and the utter feeling that there’s nothing to live for, no inkling of hope, creep their way into the minds of people of all ages; those who have barely began to live their lives to others who have experienced many years of life’s ups and downs.
What is left in the wake of the extremely sad and defining result of a person ending their own life? Complete devastation accompanied by unanswered questions of why or what could I have done to help in the minds and deep in the soles of the person’s friends, family and loved ones. Even the community is left reeling with similar questions and sorrow.
We would all like to remind anyone who is feeling hopeless or feeling there’s nothing to live for, help is always available, someone is always willing to help you out of the crushing darkness you’re feeling. There’s no need to hurt anyone or yourself which will only cause more devastation and life-long pain for those who care about you.
