Suspect Met on Social Media Dating Site Charged with Rape, Felony Assault, Unlawful Imprisonment & Harassment

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Domestic Violence Detective Mike Ricketts arrested 35-year-old Torrey T. Gambill for Rape 3rd Degree, Assault 3rd Degree, Unlawful Imprisonment and Harassment this morning while serving a search warrant at his North Spokane County home.

On November 11, 2017 at approximately 3:45 a.m., Spokane County Deputy Jerry Moffett began investigating a reported rape which occurred at a residence in the 12800 block of N. Palomino Ln. in North Spokane County.

Deputy Moffett contacted the victim, who was noticeably upset, at a local hospital receiving medical treatment.  The adult female victim stated she met Gambill on Tinder, a social media dating site, a few weeks ago.  She went out with her friends earlier in the evening but was contacted by Gambill as she was going home.  She said Gambill wanted to meet and they agreed to meet at a local restaurant/bar in North Spokane.  After some conversation and a couple drinks they decided to go to Gambill’s residence where the sexual and physical assault occurred.

Detective Ricketts was assigned the case and began to investigate.  Last week, Detective Ricketts met with the victim and conducted an interview.  During the interview, the victim explained when she met Gambill, they seemed to have a lot in common and had met and been intimate prior to the night of the assault.

The victim reiterated the information she had told Deputy Moffett regarding meeting up with Gambill at the restaurant/bar the night of the assault.  She explained when the left the location to go to Gambill’s she started to notice she was having trouble remembering things.  Once at the residence, they began watching TV and later started to have consensual sex but Gambill became abusive.  The victim began to cry and was visibly upset as she continued by saying Gambill became violent, hit her, and put his hand on her throat.  She told Gambill to stop but he said no.  After the sexual assault, he began to hit her and demand she follow his commands.  The more she told him no, the angrier he became.  During the assault, the victim stated she was fearful for her life, grabbed by the neck, hit, kicked and pushed to the ground.  She said Gambill would not let her leave, threatened to kill and maim her, called her profane names, and made derogatory statements about women.

After about an hour of abuse, she said Gambill let her leave and she went to the hospital and reported the incident.

Detective Ricketts obtained a search warrant for Gambill and his residence, which was served early this morning where Detective Ricketts subsequently arrested Gambill.

Gambill was transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail for charges of Rape 3rd Degree, Assault 3rd Degree, Unlawful Imprisonment and Harassment.
