Physicians
The Spokane Medical Examiner's Office employs 3 physicians, 2 of of the physicians employed in the Medical Examiner's Office attended Medical School at the University of Washington, and also completed sub-specialty fellowship training in Forensic Pathology at the King County Medical Examiner's Office in Seattle. The third physician attended Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed sub-specialty fellowship training in Forensic Pathology at the Miami Dade County Medical Examiner's Office in Miami, FL. All three physicians are board certified in Forensic Pathology by the American Board of Pathology. Board certification is a rigorous process requiring specialized training, recommendation, and successful completion of board examinations. In Washington State, physicians are required to complete continuing education requirements in order to maintain licensure.
Medicolegal Death Investigators
The Spokane County Medical Examiner's Office employs six full-time investigators. An investigator is available 24 hours a day, every day.
Four of the full time investigators are currently registered with the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators. Registration requires experience in the field, successful completion of a written examination, recommendation, and continuing education.
