Notice of Open Planning Commission Seats

Notice is given by the Spokane County Board of Commissioners regarding open Planning Commission member seats.  The Spokane County Planning Commission consists of seven (7) volunteer county citizens that make recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners.  The Planning Commission, working closely with the Department of Building and Planning, conducts open public hearings and public meetings on various planning and land use issues such as regional planning, comprehensive plan amendments, zoning reclassifications and development regulations.  The Planning Commission meets of the first Thursday following the second Monday of each month.  Additional monthly meetings may be held, as necessary.  Meetings begin at 9 a.m. and can last up to 7 hours.  One Planning Commission member will be appointed from and by each county commissioner and his/her district with two additional at-large member positions.

Persons interested in being considered for appointment to the Planning Commission by the Board of County Commissioners must complete an application.   Applications are to be submitted to Ginna Vasquez or mailed to the Spokane County Commissioner's Office - Attn:  Ginna Vasquez, 1116 West Broadway Avenue, Spokane WA, 99260 no later than February 9, 2023, by 5:00 p.m.   For more information, call (509) 477-2265.

About the Commission

The Spokane County Planning Commission is a seven-member citizen advisory board that makes recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners. The members are volunteer county citizens appointed to four-year terms by the Board of County Commissioners.

The Planning Commission, working closely with the Department of Building and Planning, conducts open record (public) hearings and public meetings on the following types of land use issues:

  • Regional Planning
  • Comprehensive Plan Amendments
  • Zoning Reclassifications
  • Development Regulations

The Planning Commission meets on the first Thursday following the second Monday of each month. Additional monthly meetings may be held as necessary.
