Bridge No. 2606 | County Road Project C3264 Project Type: Deck Rehabilitation Project Manager: Michael Duke Jr., P.E. Design Year: 2021 Construction Year: 2022 Contractor: Razz Construction, Inc.
The Waikiki Road bridge is located on Waikiki Road approximately 1.5 miles west of Mill Road in north Spokane County, Section 12, T 26N, R 42E, WM. The bridge, which crosses the Little Spokane River, was constructed in 1961. Approximately 20 percent of the deck surface was spalled and delaminated with areas of exposed reinforcing steel. This significant deterioration in the bridge deck prompted the County to apply for and receive a federal grant in 2019 to rehabilitate the bridge deck.
The rehabilitation included removing the top layer of concrete to provide a clean roughened surface for the placement of a new modified concrete overlay and new expansion joints. The asphalt approaches were reconstructed to match the new deck elevation. Traffic was maintained during construction.
The rehabilitation took approximately two months to complete and the bridge was fully opened to traffic at the end of June 2022. It was funded by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
