ESHB 1332 was signed into law on April 16th, 2021. The new state law allows property owners to apply for a 2021 property tax payment plan extension for real property primarily used for business purposes. To be eligible, a property owner must submit a completed application to the Treasurer of Spokane County by April 30th, 2021 and demonstrate that each real property parcel applied for suffered a loss of at least 25% of revenue attributable to the property in 2020 compared to 2019. The Treasurer's Office has until June 30th to process received applications.
Personal property taxes and real property not used for a business purpose are not eligible. Delinquent property taxes owed are also not eligible. The law allows for the Department of Revenue to possibly audit any persons receiving an extension under ESHB 1332 to determine if the person was eligible for an extension.
Treasurer Michael Baumgartner previously extended the first half Spokane County property tax deadline from April 30th to May 31st. No action is required for taxpayers utilizing the county one-month extension.
