2022 Spokane County Recycles Poster Contest

The Magic of Recycling! That’s the theme for the 2022 Spokane County Recycles Poster Contest. Selected artwork will be used to educate county residents on the importance of reducing waste as we work towards conserving resources by giving new life to recyclables. 

Spokane County students in grades K-8 are invited to submit their creative interpretations of this year’s theme. Up to 15 winners will be selected to illustrate the 2023 Spokane County Recycles calendar. 

In addition, finalists will have their work on public display at River Park Square from Oct. 31 through Nov. 15 and be officially recognized by elected officials and solid waste professionals. The program culminates on November 15 which is America Recycles Day.

Spokane Recycles” – 2022 Poster Contest Rules:

Posters must be letter-size (8 1/2 x 11) and drawn horizontally. You may use marker, crayon, colored pencil; no 3-D collages please. The student’s name must not appear on front of poster. Fill out the registration form to submit student artwork or view our rules document to learn more about the rules of the competition.

Primary considerations for judging are, in priority:

  • Use of theme “The Magic of Recycling!”
  • Originality
  • Artistic ability – attractive and grade appropriate (Tip: make any text large enough to be legible at a distance.)

Up to 30 finalists will be selected for public display the month of November. Finalists will also receive special recognition by County officials and solid waste professionals in November as part of the America Recycles Day celebration.

Fifteen (15) posters will be selected from the finalists to illustrate the 2023 Spokane Recycles Calendar. Students may enter individually or as part of a class. Posters must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14, at Spokane’s Waste to Energy facility, 2900 S. Geiger Blvd., Spokane WA 99224. (If hand delivering, go to the administration building and leave with the receptionist.)

  • Originality
  • Artistic ability – attractive and grade appropriate (Tip: make any text large enough to be legible at a distance.)

30 finalists were selected for public display during month of November 2021, and finalists also received special recognition by County officials and solid waste professionals in November 2021 as part of the America Recycles Day celebration.

Fifteen (15) posters were selected from the finalists to illustrate the 2022 Spokane Recycles Calendar.

2020 Spokane County Recycles Poster Contest


Entrants had to be in grades K-8 and either resided or attended school in Spokane County. The “Spokane Recycles” – 2020 Poster Contest Rules were: Posters must be letter-size (8 1/2 x 11) and drawn horizontally. You may use marker, crayon, colored pencil; no 3-D collages, please. The student’s name must not appear on front of poster. Primary considerations for judging are, in priority:

• Use of theme “Erase the Waste: Reduce, Reuse then Recycle!”

• Originality

• Artistic ability – attractive and grade appropriate

(Tip: make any text large enough to be legible at a distance.)

Up to 30 finalists were selected for public display during the month of November. Finalists will also receive special recognition by County officials and solid waste professionals in November as part of the America Recycles Day celebration. Fifteen (15) posters will be selected from the finalists to illustrate the 2021 Spokane Recycles Calendar. Students may enter individually or as part of a class. Posters must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, at Spokane’s Waste to Energy facility, 2900 S. Geiger Blvd., Spokane WA 99224. (If hand delivering, go to the administration building and leave with the receptionist.) Complete a signed release form and attach the filled-out information to the back of the completed poster with small pieces of tape - no glue, staples, or paper clips. Do not fold poster.
